Not everyone can apply to just any scholarship. First, you have to meet certain criteria to be eligible for a particular scholarship, and one of those criteria is your nationality. There are those scholarships that target students from a specific region or country only but there are scholarships which are open to all international students*.
ICSP Tuition Scholarships at University of Oregon (USA)
International students who demonstrate financial need and exceptional merit may apply for the International Cultural Service Program (ICSP) at the University of Oregon. Selected ICSP students receive a tuition-waiver scholarship ranging from $7,500 – $30,000. ICSP students agree to complete 80 hours per year of cultural service as required by the program.
Clark University Global Scholars Program (USA)
Clark University offers the Global Scholars Program which are open to High school students who are NOT permanent residents or citizens of the United States, as well as U.S. citizens/permanent residents who reside overseas and will complete their entire secondary school education outside the U.S. A scholarship of between $5,000 and $25,000 per year (subject to conditions) and a guaranteed $2,500 taxable stipend for a paid internship or research assistantship taken for academic credit during the summer following the sophomore or junior year is included with the award.
International Leader of Tomorrow Award at University of British Columbia (Canada)
University of British Columbia (UBC) provides bachelors scholarships for talented secondary and post-secondary international students from around the world. The value of awards is commensurate with demonstrated financial need, up to full tuition costs for the relevant program of study, and living expenses.
York University International Student Scholarship Program (Canada)
York University offers Global Leader of Tomorrow Scholarships, United World College Scholarships, and International Entrance Scholarships specifically for international students who would like to take a full-time undergraduate degree at University of York. The scholarships are worth $60,000 – $100,000 for a four-year degree program.
Melbourne International Undergraduate Scholarships (Australia)
The International Undergraduate Scholarships were established by the University of Melbourne in recognition of the significant contribution made by international students to the diversity of the University’s student population. The scholarship provides partial fee remission from tuition fees.
Denys Holland Scholarship at University College London (UK)
The Denys Holland Scholarship aims to support undergraduate students from any country, who without the support of the scholarship would be unable to secure the funding required to study at University College London (UCL), and who can demonstrate their intention to make full use of the activities offered by UCL and the Student Union. The scholarship is worth £9,000 per annum and scholars may choose to use all or part of the scholarship to cover fees.
Sheffield Hallam University Transform Together Scholarships (UK)
Transform Together scholarships are open to international and European Union (non-UK) students applying to study a full-time postgraduate or undergraduate taught course at Sheffield Hallam University. Half fee waiver (50%) is available for postgraduate courses and for each year of an undergraduate degree.
Bologna University Study Grants for International Students (Italy)
The University of Bologna offers study grants to deserving international students who wish to register for First Cycle (Bachelors), Second Cycle (Masters) or Single Cycle Degree Programmes at the University of Bologna. Each study grant is awarded for one academic year and amounts to a total of €11,059, gross of all charges for the beneficiary’s account.
Bocconi University Scholarships for International Students (Italy)
Bocconi University offers scholarships to international students enrolling in any Bachelor’s Program or Master of Science Program at Bocconi. The scholarship are in the form of full tuition waiver worth up to € 11,500 per year for Bachelor’s Program and up to € 12,000 per year for Master’s of Science Program.
ETH Excellence Scholarships (Switzerland)
ETH Excellence Scholarships are open to excellent students both from the ETH and from other universities (national and international) wishing to pursue their Master’s degree at ETH Zurich. The scholarships consist of a full/partial grant covering living and study expenses as well as a tuition fee waiver.
University of Lausanne Master’s Grant for Foreign Students (Switzerland)
The University of Lausanne in Switzerland offers scholarships to international students who wishes to pursue a Masters Degree at the University through the UNIL Master’s Grants. The amount of the grant is CHF 1,600.- per month from 15 September to 15 July, for a duration not exceeding the regulation minimum period of the programme.
University of Twente Scholarships (Netherlands)
University Twente Scholarships (UTS) are scholarships for excellent students from both EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA countries, applying for a graduate programme (MSc) at the University of Twente. The scholarship amount is from € 6,000 – € 25,000 for one year.
TU Delft Excellence Scholarships (Netherlands)
The Delft University of Technology offers a number of excellence scholarship programs for international students. The Justus & Louise van Effen scholarship is one of those programs and it aims to financially supporting excellent international MSc students wishing to study at TU Delft. The scholarship is a full scholarship – coverage of tuition fees and monthly allowance for living expenses.
École Normale Supérieure International Selection (France)
Each year the ENS organizes an international selection allowing about thirty of the most promising international students, either in Science or in Humanities, to follow a two or three-year course at the ENS. They receive a monthly stipend of approximately 1,000 Euros and benefit from an accommodation on the ENS campus. About 30 foreign students are awarded each year.
Schwarzman Scholars Program at Tsinghua University (China)
The Schwarzman Scholars Program will give the world’s best and brightest students from all countries the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and professional networks through a one-year Master’s Degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing – one of China’s most prestigious universities. The scholarship covers tuition and fees, room and board, travel costs, personal stipend, health insurance, etc.
Gates Cambridge Scholarships (UK)
The Gates Cambridge Scholarships are one of the most prestigious international scholarships in the world. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. The scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge and also provides additional, discretionary funding.
Clarendon Scholarships at University of Oxford (UK)
The Clarendon Fund is a major graduate scholarship scheme at the University of Oxford, offering around 140 new scholarships every year. The scholarships are open to students from all countries and awarded on the basis of academic excellence and potential across all degree-bearing subjects at graduate level at the University of Oxford. The scholarships cover tuition and college fees in full and a generous grant for living expenses.
Warwick Chancellor’s International Scholarships (UK)
The Warwick Graduate School awards around 25 Chancellor’s International Scholarships to the most outstanding international PhD applicants each year. The scholarships are open to students of any nationality and to any discipline offered at Warwick. The scholarships include the full payment of overseas tuition fees and maintenance allowance.
University of Sydney International Scholarships (Australia)
The University of Sydney invites candidates who are eligible to undertake a Postgraduate Research Degree or Master’s by Research program at this University to apply for the University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USydIS). The USydIS will cover tuition fees and living allowance for up to three years.
University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships (Canada)
The University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships (UMGF) are merit-based awards that are open to students of any nationality who will be registered as full-time graduate students (Masters or Ph.D.) at the University of Manitoba. The fellowships are valued at $18,000 for PhD students, or $14,000 for Master’s students for a 12-month period.
* Generally, international students are students who are not citizens and/or residents of the country of study. However, certain scholarship programs has some country exceptions (i.e. some Australia scholarships does not treat students from New Zealand as international students). In other scholarships, international students are also defined as students who have obtained their previous degree in an institution outside the country of study regardless of their citizenship.
