The Embassy of France in the United States awards grants of €1,400 to €1,500 per month to PhD students.
Scholarship type:
Program description:
Scholarships for research in France on:
[1] humanities and social sciences : French literature, cinema, the humanities, the arts, history, philosophy, political sciences;
[2] basic or applied research in science and technology.

Amount/Benefits:
€1,400 or €1,500 per month + travel expenditures and assistance in France

Duration:
[1] Fellowship in social sciences lasts 4 to 8 months (starting date on October 1st or February 1st).
[2] In science and technology, the fellowship lasts 6 to 10 months (shouldn't start later than January).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:


Additional conditions:
Co-sponsorship by a candidate's American university or French host institution is encouraged.

REGISTRATION / APPLICATION:
Candidates must obtain a letter of recommandation from their advisors in the US and a letter of invitation from a French professor employed in a French university or a research institution.

3-5 page proposal describing your thesis project
10 line summary IN FRENCH of your thesis subject
All contact information from host university
An official transcript from each college or university that you have attended.
A letter of agreement from your advisor in the United States.
One letter of recommendation from a reference who knows your work but who is not your US or French advisor.

An invitation letter from a professor in France.

Selection process:
Evaluation by both French and American sholars, then French-American jury
