How to Apply

  • Prepare the opening of your novel or book, with a maximum length of 5,000 words.
  • Add a one-page synopsis of the work.
  • For picture books, applicants may submit up to three complete texts together with a synopsis page.
  • Save the file in Word or PDF format.
  • Make sure not to include the author’s name or contact details in the manuscript file, as judging is conducted anonymously.
  • Do not include images, maps, illustrations, or cover designs in the submission file.
  • Complete the online entry form.
  • Enter the book title, target age group, genre, and applicant information.
  • Upload the manuscript file.
  • Pay the GBP 33 entry fee, or apply for a Sponsored Place if eligible.
