Elizabeth Usher and Sadie Philcox Scholarship in Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy
Eligibility:
You're eligible if you:
- submit an application by the closing date for applications;
- are enrolled full-time in either the Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours), the Master of Speech Pathology Studies, the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours), or the Master of Occupational Therapy Studies;
- are not holding another similar scholarship in the year of the award; and
- can demonstrate financial hardship by providing documentary evidence.

About this scholarship:
Established in 2025 thanks to support from the School of Health and Rehabiltation Sciences, Alumni Friends, and generous community members to support students from diverse backgrounds and to build a stronger and more resilient allied health workforce across Queensland. The Scholarship honours the legacy of two pioneering women who helped establish their professions in Australia and at UQ. Elizabeth Usher established Queensland’s first university program in speech pathology at UQ in the 1960s and Sadie Philcox served as the first President of the Australian Association of Occupational Therapy in the 1940s and became UQ’s inaugural Head of Occupational Therapy. Their leadership and commitment to education continues to inspire the next generation of allied health professionals.
