Final Weds 7th Oct 6pm-8pm, Nickson Room
Competition Rules:
- Heats- max 10 mins duration
- Finals- max 20 mins duration
- No more than 6 candidates to proceed from heats to finals in each competition
- Competitors to organise and self-fund any rehearsals with pianist prior to heats and final if required
- Winner (automatic) and runner up (by invitation) in each competition to perform in prize winner concert
- The finals of the prize will be adjudicated by a panel that will include a representative from the Queensland Symphony Orchestra Percussion section
- Presentations should be no longer than 10 or less than 8 minutes duration.
- The repertoire must include a snare drum based work (can include other instruments), a 2-mallet work and a 4-mallet work. The mallet works can be for xylophone, vibraphone or marimba.
- Large instrumentation should be avoided for the snare drum based work if multi-percussion piece(s) are chosen. Minimizing setup time between applicants is important.
- No more than 5 minutes will be allocated for setup preparations between applicants
- Selected works can be movements from larger works or a series of shorter works to make up the time requirement. The program should be balanced across the performance areas. That is, each work should be of a similar standard and time allocation across the performance areas. For example, a 7-minute 4-mallet marimba work would not be appropriate. Approximately 3 minutes of repertoire for each performance area is expected.
