The University of Western Australia (UWA) is pleased to announce the availability of Postgraduate Research Scholarships for the year 2025. These scholarships aim to support the training of both domestic and international students who wish to pursue a Higher Degree by Research (HDR). The primary objective of these scholarships is to equip graduates with the necessary skills to build successful careers in both academic and non-academic sectors.

The scholarships cover tuition fees, provide a living allowance, and support research-related expenses, facilitating students’ journey towards advanced research and professional development. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by UWA.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet all the following criteria:
    • Meet the HDR course admission requirements, including the UWA HDR English language competence requirements.
    • Be eligible to enrol in an HDR course that contains a research component of at least 66%.
    • Be available to take up an offered scholarship by the commencement date advertised for that round.

Application Process

  1. Determine Eligibility:
    • Check the admission requirement and course rules via the UWA Handbook.
    • Ensure you meet the English language requirement for your chosen course via the English language requirement guidelines.
  2. Gather Documentation:
    • Passport bio page or birth certificate.
    • Visa grant notification or citizenship certificate (if applicable).
    • Evidence of name change if degree transcripts or documents are under a different name.
    • Evidence of meeting English language requirement.
    • Thesis or dissertation (an English transcribed version must be included, but it does not need to be an officially translated version).
    • Official certified translated versions of documents in a language other than English (apart from the thesis/dissertation).
  3. Identify and Secure Academic Supervisors:
    • Search the UWA Research Repository to identify potential supervisors.
    • Use the UWA People Finder for contact details.
    • Contact potential supervisors directly with your CV, a brief outline of research, and academic transcripts. Provide evidence (e.g., email) that your nominated academic supervisor has agreed to supervise you.
  4. Apply:
    • Part 1: Apply for a place in your selected course via the online HDR application portal.
    • Part 2: Apply for a scholarship via the online Scholarship application form.
  5. Results:
    • Notification of the application outcome will be sent to the provided email address.
    • Successful applicants will receive one offer for both scholarship and admission to the HDR course.
