The Canada Gairdner International Award honors outstanding researchers whose unique scientific contributions have advanced the understanding of human biology and diseases. The Gairdner Foundation invites the scientific community to nominate eligible researchers and welcomes nominations in the field of translational research. The award aims to recognize leading research groups rather than lifetime cumulative achievements.
The Gairdner Awards are among the most prestigious accolades recognizing the world's best researchers in biomedical science and global health, awarded annually since 1957. To date, 418 awards have been granted to recipients from over 40 countries, and among these laureates, 98 have received a Nobel Prize.
The nomination elements include:
Candidate Details: Contact information and essential professional background.
Citation: A statement of up to 150 words defining the candidate’s distinguished research group.
Research Summary: A maximum of 1,000 words summarizing the candidate's scientific working group.
Top Five Publications: The best five relevant publications related to the research summary, along with a brief overview of their impact and significance.
Short CV: 10 to 20 pages.
Candidate in Context: A maximum of 1,000 words explaining the candidate's working group within the field, including:
The impact on the trajectory or fundamental understanding of their field.
Other significant contributors or potential co-nominees in the highlighted work.
Clarification of their contributions within collaborative projects and publications.
Evaluation Letters: 3-5 letters, each 2-3 pages long. The authors should be knowledgeable in the field and capable of providing objective evaluations of the nominee and their working group, not just endorsements. The letters should represent a range of stakeholders in the nominee's professional field.
