The National Taiwan University offers various scholarships to its students. The spring intake (Graduate programs only) is only open to master’s and doctoral applicants, while the fall intake is for all levels. The National Taiwan University Scholarships aim to attract outstanding candidates from all parts of the world to study in Taiwan and contribute to the university’s growth. Scholarships are for studies at undergraduate and graduate levels in different subjects such as engineering, social sciences, natural sciences, humanities, etc.

Scholarship financial support varies per scholarship type, including full or partial tuition coverage, living allowances, accommodation, and health insurance. Founded in 1928, the National Taiwan University (NTU; 國立臺灣大學) is a national public research university located in Taipei, Taiwan. Considered to be the most prestigious university in Taiwan, NTU is also internationally renowned. In fact, NTU ranked 69th worldwide in the QS World University Rankings 2024 and 187th worldwide in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023.

The National Taiwan University provides a wide range of academic disciplines (from humanities to science) that are available for studies at undergraduate, master’s, and PhD degree levels. The university consists of 11 colleges, 56 departments, 133 graduate institutes, about 60 research centers, and a school of professional education and continuing studies.

A – Scholarships for Undergraduate Students

NTU International Undergraduate Student Scholarship

Requirements: All international degree students can apply.

Benefits: Tuition subsidy of up to TWD 65,000 (USD 2,167) each semester + monthly stipend of TWD 8,000 (USD 267).

Exclusions: Administrative fees, thesis advisor’s fees, insurance, accommodation, internet service, credit fees, etc. – you pay those.

Maximum Duration: The designated years of study for the program.

Renewal GPA: 3.0 in the first year, 3.2 in the second year, and 3.33 in the third year.

College/Department Scholarship

NTU Scholarship for Central and Eastern European Countries (NTU‑CEEC Scholarship)

Requirements: Students from Austria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Slovakia.

Benefits: Tuition subsidy up to TWD 65,000 (EUR 2,013) each semester + monthly stipend of TWD 8,000 (EUR 256).

Maximum Duration: ≤ 4 years.

Renewal GPA: 3.0 (year 1), 3.2 (year 2), 3.33 (year 3).

How to Apply: Eligible students are automatically considered. No extra steps.

NTU Scholarship for British Virgin Islands (NTU‑BVI Scholarship)

Requirements: Students from the British Virgin Islands (BVI).

Benefits: Tuition subsidy up to TWD 65,000 (USD 2,167) each semester + monthly stipend of TWD 8,000 (USD 267).

Maximum Duration: 4 years.

Renewal GPA: 3.0, 3.2, 3.33.

NTU Scholarship for the Global Undergraduate Program in Semiconductors

Requirements: All international degree students applying to the Global Undergraduate Program in Semiconductors.

Benefits: Tuition subsidy up to TWD 65,000 (USD 2,167) each semester + monthly stipend of TWD 8,000 (USD 267).

Quota: 2 per academic year.

Maximum Duration: 4 years.

Renewal GPA: same as above.

Scholarship for Students Admitted through Recommendation by Overseas High Schools

Requirements: Overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, or Macao students admitted to NTU through recommendation by overseas high schools.

Benefits: Full tuition waiver + monthly stipend of TWD 8,000 (USD 267).

Maximum Duration: Designated years of study.

Renewal GPA: 3.38 each year.

B – Government Scholarships (Undergraduate & Graduate)

These must be applied for directly with the relevant ministry or Taiwan overseas mission in your home country. NTU is not involved and cannot assist with applications.

MOFA Taiwan Scholarship

Requirements: In principle, students from countries with diplomatic relations with Taiwan. Special consideration for others.

Benefits: One‑way economy class direct flights to/from Taiwan, reduced tuition fees, and a monthly stipend of TWD 33,000 (USD 1,100).

Maximum Duration: Undergraduate: 4 years; Master’s: ≤2 years; PhD: ≤4 years.

MOE Taiwan Scholarship

Requirements: Nationalities from countries not in the scope of MOFA Taiwan Scholarship.

Benefits: Tuition waiver up to TWD 40,000 each semester + monthly stipend (TWD 15,000 for undergrad, TWD 20,000 for graduate).

Maximum Duration: Undergraduate: 4 years; Master’s: ≤2 years; PhD: ≤4 years.

How to Apply: Same MOE program office as above.

OCAC Elite and Outstanding Scholarship (for Overseas Chinese)

Requirements: Overseas Chinese students with excellent academic performance. Elite: average ≥88 points and top 5% of class. Outstanding: average ≥85 points and top 10% of class.

Awards: Elite: TWD 260,000 per academic year (plus possible NTU top-up of TWD 130,000) – total up to TWD 1,560,000 over four years. Outstanding: TWD 100,000 per year (plus a possible NTU top-up of TWD 50,000) – total up to TWD 600,000.

C – Scholarships for Graduate Students

Outstanding International Graduate Student Scholarship

Requirements: All applicants to international graduate degree programs. (Contact your potential supervisor regarding possibilities.)

Benefits: Tuition subsidy up to TWD 100,000 (USD 3,333) each semester + monthly stipend:

National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Allocation Graduate Research Fellowship

Requirements: All applicants to international doctoral programs.

Benefits: Monthly stipend of TWD 40,000 (USD 1,333).

Maximum Duration: Up to 3 years.

Renewal: Submit a report each June including academic performance, achievements, and international activities.

How to Apply: Check the scholarship box. Only available for September entry. Deferring admission revokes the scholarship.

NTU Loyalty Award for Overseas Degree Students

Requirements: Current NTU international/overseas Chinese students admitted into a higher degree program upon graduation. Current Bachelor’s students must be in the top half of their class the semester before application.

Award: Master’s programs: TWD 100,000 (USD 3,333); PhD programs: TWD 200,000 (USD 6,666). Paid in installments (TWD 50,000 per semester from the second semester onward).

Renewal: Annual performance review by college committee.

How to Apply: Wait for OIA’s announcement. Awardees may receive this on top of other NTU scholarships (unless the other scholarship prohibits it).

NTU Scholarship for Latin America and Caribbean Project

Requirements: Students from Belize, Guatemala, Haiti, Paraguay, Saint Christopher and Nevis, Saint Lucia, or Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Benefits: Tuition subsidy up to TWD 65,000 (USD 2,167) each semester + monthly stipend TWD 8,000 (USD 267).

Maximum Duration: Master’s ≤ 2 years, PhD ≤ 4 years.

Quota: 30 per academic year.

NTU Centennial Fellowship Program

Requirements: Graduates of Chulalongkorn University, Mahidol University, Universitas Indonesia, Institut Teknologi Bandung, or Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Benefits: Master’s: TWD 300,000 per academic year (USD 10,000); PhD: TWD 500,000 per academic year (USD 16,667).

Maximum Duration: Master’s ≤ 2 years, PhD ≤ 4 years.

Elite Scholarship Program (for lecturers from SE Asia or Africa)

Requirements: Current lecturers from Southeast Asia or Africa pursuing a master’s or PhD in Taiwan.

Benefits: Monthly stipend TWD 25,000 (USD 833).

Maximum Duration: Master’s ≤2 years, PhD ≤3 years.

Taiwan‑Europe Semiconductor Scholarship Program

Requirements: Nationality from Lithuania, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Kosovo, or Albania. Enrolled in a master’s/PhD program related to semiconductors.

Benefits: Round‑trip economy flight (up to TWD 100,000/EUR 3,125), tuition subsidy up to TWD 60,000 (EUR 1,875) per semester, and monthly stipend: TWD 30,000 (EUR 940) for master’s and TWD 40,000 (EUR 1,250) for PhD.

Maximum Duration: Master’s ≤ 2 years, PhD ≤ 4 years.

Renewal GPA: 2.7 or above each year.

International Industrial Talents Education Special Program (INTENSE Program) 2026

Requirements: International students, overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, and Macau students admitted to NTU master’s or doctoral programs for the 2026 academic year.

D – Other Scholarships (Administered by External Institutes)

The payment processes of these scholarships are handled by the institute in charge.

Taiwan/Republic of China‑PIFS Scholarship Scheme

Requirements: Citizen of a Forum Island Country (FIC), under 35 for undergraduate, under 40 for postgraduate.

Benefits: tuition fees, living and accommodation allowances, medical insurance, textbooks, and one return economy airfare.

Mekong 1000 Project

Requirements: Vietnamese students.

Benefits: round-trip economy tickets, tuition subsidy.

Aceh Governmental Project

Requirements: Acehnese (Indonesia).

Benefits: round-trip tickets, tuition subsidy, living allowance, insurance, textbooks.

How to Apply: Apply through the government of Aceh, Indonesia.

Fulbright Scholarship (US citizens only)

Requirements: US nationals applying to NTU’s Global Health or Biodiversity master’s/PhD programs.

Benefits: Monthly allowance TWD 25,000, settling-in & baggage allowance TWD 36,000 (one time), round-trip air ticket, National Health Insurance (provided by IIE). NTU adds a tuition waiver (for required credits) and student dormitory.

Maximum Duration: Master’s ≤ 2 years, PhD ≤ 2 years.

NTU‑SEARCA Joint Scholarship Program

Requirements: Citizens of SEAMEO member countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam), aged ≤35, applying to NTU’s Master Program in Global Agriculture Technology and Genomic Science, Master’s Program in Biodiversity, or MS Program in Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience.

Benefits: Tuition and other school fees, living allowance, health insurance, travel allowance (international airfare), book and supplies allowance.

Maximum Duration: 2 years.

National Taiwan University Scholarships Eligibility

To apply for this Asia scholarship, applicants must meet the following general criteria:

  • Hold citizenship of any country other than Taiwan (for international students scholarships).
  • Be healthy both physically and mentally.
  • Undergraduate degree program applicants should hold a high school diploma.
  • Master’s degree program applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree.
  • Doctoral degree program applicants should have a master’s degree.
  • Meet the university admission requirements. Contact the university for more details.
  • Meet program-specific requirements.

How to Apply for the National Taiwan University Scholarships

Those who would like to apply for these university scholarships should check information at the “How to Apply” section of each scholarship above. In general, eligible candidates are automatically considered, or applicants only need to check the scholarship application box in the online application system. Some scholarships are automatic based on nationality or program.

Taiwan Government Scholarships (MOFA, MOE) require separate applications through the Taiwan Scholarship Program Office or your local Taiwan mission. NTU is not involved.
