The Government of Canada launched the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program in 2008 to attract the best doctoral students from here and abroad and to make Canada a center of excellence in research and higher education around the world. The academic achievements of Vanier Scholars in the humanities, natural sciences and/or engineering, and health sciences are exceptional, and their leadership skills are recognized.
Scope
Up to 166 scholarships are awarded each year,
A maximum of 500 scholarships are in effect at any time.

$50,000 per year
Duration
3 years (non-renewable)
The scholarships are divided equally between the three granting agencies:
the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC)
the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)
Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)
