MEDS (Meetings of Design Students) Belgium is calling for tutors for the MEDS Workshop 2026, titled “Reweaving the Brussels Canal District”.
MEDS Workshop is an international, collaborative educational event fostering learning and professional development in architecture, design, and related disciplines.
The Tutor Call is a competition open to architects, designers, and creatives interested in leading hands-on, design-build workshops. Selected tutors will guide participants and co-design together throughout the development and realization of their proposals, contributing to a collective narrative for the site.
The 15th edition will take place in Brussels, focusing on Kuregem within the Brussels Canal Zone, an area shaped by industrial heritage, cultural diversity, and ongoing spatial and social challenges. The aim of MEDS Workshop 2026 is to develop a series of experimental projects that explore how design can reconnect fragmented urban fabrics, communities, and ecologies.
Under the theme “Reweaving the Brussels Canal District,” proposals are expected to engage with the legacy of industry as heritage, system, or catalyst for transformation, while addressing topics such as urban regeneration, circularity, social inclusion, and public space.
Projects may take the form of spatial interventions, installations, research-driven designs, or performative works, and should respond to the local context of Kuregem and its communities.
The workshop is open to students and young professionals from design-related and complementary disciplines worldwide. Participants and tutors must be at least 18 years old.
Individuals or teams may apply by submitting one or more project proposals.
The workshop will host approximately 140 participants, including tutors and take place from 28 July to 16 August 2026 in Brussels, Belgium.
Selected projects will be realized during the workshop with support from the organizers. Tutors will receive certification upon successful completion of their workshop, and projects will be documented and disseminated through MEDS Network and partner platforms.
MEDS Workshop (Meetings of Design Students) has been organized annually since 2010, each year in a different international location, promoting cultural exchange, collaborative learning, and experimental, hands-on production.
