Eligibility:

You're eligible if you:

  • have qualified for the Bachelor of Science majoring in Earth Science, and
  • will be enrolled in an undergraduate honours program at UQ in the field of palaeontology or stratigraphy. 

Selection criteria:

The scholarship is awarded to the student who, in the opinion of the Head, is best suited to pursuing an honours program in the field of palaeontology. 

If there is no suitable candidate in a year, the scholarship may be awarded to a student who will be enrolled in an honours program in the field of stratigraphy. 

About this scholarship:

Established in 1968 by a gift of $5,000 from A. B. Walkom, DSc Syd., Lecturer in Geology at the University of Queensland from 1913 to 1919, during which time he commenced to build up the University’s palaeontological collections, developed the teaching in historical geology, and carried out and published in the results of important research on the Mesozoic plant fossils of Queensland.
