Award or Grant Description $$ in-state tuition rates
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is inviting candidates to apply for the HBCU Initiative Scholarship. The award is open for the academic session 2024/2025.
This exciting new program allows UMES to offer in-state tuition rates to out-of-state students who reside in a state or region without an HBCU (Historically Black College and University). The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is a public historically black land-grant research university located in Princess Anne, Maryland. Established in 1886, UMES has a rich history that reflects its evolving role and mission. Initially founded as the Delaware Conference Academy, it has gone through various name changes, including Princess Anne Academy, before becoming Maryland State College in 1948 and finally the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 1970.
Successful applicants will benefit from reduced tuition fees, allowing them to access quality education at UMES without the financial burden associated with out-of-state tuition rates.
To apply, applicants must take admission in an undegraduate degree at the university. Candidates may utilize one of three platforms: the Common App, the Common Black College App, or the UMES Standard Application. A completed application must be submitted along with a nonrefundable application fee of $35.00, official transcripts, and optionally standardized test scores, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement.
