The IN:SENSE Design Award is an international sensory design competition celebrating work that goes beyond sight to engage sound, touch, scent, light, space, and emotion.

Under the theme “Design Beyond Sight”, the 2027 Award invites sensory design projects across a wide range of disciplines, including product design, spatial design, service design, digital interaction, AI-powered systems, art, and research.

Open to students, emerging creatives, and design professionals worldwide, the Award invites entries across four categories.

Entries may include not only completed commercial products but also course projects, graduation projects, capstone projects, independent research, conceptual designs, and prototypes.

Competition Categories

  • Object & Sensation — physical objects – products, devices, tools, and wearables – where sensory experience is a core design intent
  • Space & Environment — both built spaces and designed atmospheres where sound, scent, texture, and light are treated as intentional design elements
  • Interaction & AI — works where technology serves as a medium for deeper sensory engagement – not just visually, but through sound, touch, and bodily experience
  • Art & Research — both practice-based creative work and research-driven inquiry – what matters is that sensory experience is at the center

Entries will be evaluated not simply on their visual appeal, but on the sensory experiences and meaningful connections they create for users.

Eligibility

  • Students, emerging creatives, and design professionals worldwide
Student entrants must submit valid proof of current enrollment, such as a certificate of enrollment or student ID, at the time of submission.
  • Undergraduate and graduate students at universities in any country
  • Creators working across design, art, architecture, media, AI, research, and related fields
  • Individual and team entries are both accepted
  • Projects developed through courses, studios, workshops, graduation projects, or capstone programs are eligible
  • Independent research and self-initiated creative projects are also eligible

IN:SENSE Design Award winners and selected works are officially documented through the IN:SENSE website, online exhibition, and award certificates.
