John P Marakas Memorial Scholarship Fund

Description: John P. Marakas received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Hotel Administration) in 1948 after serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. While at MSU, John played on the baseball team and supported all MSU athletics long after his graduation with regular donations and as a season ticket holder to Spartan football games. He continued his association with MSU College of Business by donating his time and experience to support the school. John served as an executive for the J.L. Hudson Company for more than 30 years and was actively involved in the Michigan State Chamber of Commerce which included a three-year stint on the Chamber’s Board of Directors. He also served as a member and president of the MSU Business Alumni Association and was awarded the Outstanding Business Alumni in 1982. This endowment will continue his legacy to MSU by providing the opportunity for young aspiring students to excel in the MSU College of Business and contributing to the continued growth of MSU as a whole.
Criteria: Recipients shall be admitted into the Eli Broad College of Business and from the Southeastern Michigan area. Preference shall be given to student athletes.
