The Gottfried Böhm Scholarship supports architects in the postgraduate phase who are particularly interested in the connection between architecture and urban development. Under the patronage of Cologne's mayor Henriette Reker the one-year residency scholarship takes place in the metropolis of Cologne. The scholarship holder is given the opportunity to work for one year on creative and visionary tasks in architecture and urban development for Cologne and its periphery. For this period he or she will receive free accommodation, a workplace in a creative environment in the heart of the city and a monthly grant totaling 2,500 euros. The scholarship is offered and supervised by the Verein der Freunde und Förderer der Technischen Hochschule Köln e.V. (Association of Friends and Sponsors of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences).
With a renowned tutor the scholarship holder receives individual professional support throughout the one-year residency. In addition an advisory committee is available to support him or her.
In order to publicly present and honor the work results of the residency fellowship mayor Reker in cooperation with the TH Köln and the Freunde und Förderer der Technischen Hochschule e.V. (Friends and Sponsors of the Technical University) invite the public to a festive event at Cologne City Hall to mark the end of the fellowship. Afterwards the urban planning ideas will be exhibited for two weeks in the atrium of the Spanish Building.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

proof of identity (identity card, passport document or passport substitute)
letter of motivation (obligatory, 1 page)
curriculum vitae (obligatory, max. 2 pages)
project proposal for a creative, experimental and visionary planning task on urban planning-architectural topics in the city of Cologne and its periphery (obligatory, max. 6 pages)
evidence of urban planning and architectural experience (optional, max. 6 pages)
1-3 letters of recommendation (optional)
1-3 scientific publications on your own work (optional)
your application file to upload, the file name should read: name_first_name_residence_2023.pdf
in German or English language
submission until 31.08.2023, 23:59 at the latest.
In your letter of application introduce yourself and your interest in architecture and urban planning. In doing so describe your personality and your motivation as to why you are applying for the Gottfried Böhm Scholarship. Convey the importance that architecture and urban planning have for you. Assure us that you will actually be present on site in Cologne for the majority of the time (at least 280 days). (maximum 1 page)
CV: Explain your school, academic and scientific curriculum vitae and your professional stations. (maximum 2 pages)
Project proposal
With your own project proposal which you submit with your application you present the jury with a creative, experimental and visionary planning task for an urban planning-architectural implementation in the city of Cologne and its periphery. You will then work on this project idea, upon receipt of the scholarship. (max. 6 pages)
